Motorola Atrix was launched with massive fanfare. Though, shop the phone sales failed to meet the expectations but we cannot question the innovation of this Android phone. So, order it is only fair that we are going to pit it against the reigning emperor of smartphones, iPhone 4. Before, we dissect these phones and compare them, it is worth noting that both the phones are characterized by some very unique features. So here we go:
Display: Atrix 4G is one hunk of a phone with 4 inches of display, wheras iPhone 4 comes with 3.5 inch screen which is capable of displaying 640×960 pixels resolution. However, Atrix 4G’s bigger display of 4-inch gives a relatively smaller resolution of 540×960 pixels. iPhone 4 also boasts of iconic Retina display whereas, Atrix 4G uses regular TFT capacitive Touchscreen. Which display is better, is up for debate, but in normal circumstances, Retina Display provides brighter and clearer output. As for touch responsiveness, both the phones scored equal points.
Appearance: Apple is an indisputable champion of aesthetics and iPhone 4 is its prime example. iPhone 4 also has more polished looks thanks to its stainless steel and glass exterior, which also makes it more resistant towards scratches. Atrix 4G on the other hand, has plastic exteriod, which makes it lighter but at the very same time, gives it amateurish looks. Atrix 4G measures 4.6×2.5×0.4 inches in comparison to iPhone’s 4.5×2.31×0.37 inches dimensions. Both the phones weigh 4.8 oz but if you are looking for a petite phone then iPhone 4 is your best bet since the phone is only 0.37 inches thick in comparison to Atrix 4G which is 0.4 inches thick.
Operating System: Operating system is one of the most important factors for choosing a smartphone. iPhone runs on its proprietary iOS 4, whereas Atrix 4G uses Android 2.2 with Motoblur overlay. Motorola announced that the phone would be upgraded to Android 2.3 by the end of this year. As for apps, Atrix 4G is connected to Android Market, whereas iPhone 4 is connected to Apple App Store. Both the stores are among the best app markets around and though Apple Store has higher number of apps, Android Market is also sure to cater to all your app needs.
Technical Nitty-Gritty: Both iPhone 4 and Atrix 4G has 1 Ghz processors, but Atrix’s processor is dual core in comparison to iPhone’s single core processor. This is one area where Atrix beats iPhone 4 fair and square. iPhone 4 relies upon its in-house A4 processor, whereas Atrix 4G has 1GHz Tegra 2 processor. Atrix also beats iPhone 4 when it comes to RAM. Atrix 4G packs 1 GB RAM in comparison to 512 MB RAM sported by iPhone 4. So, if you are looking for a powerful phone, then go for Atrix. You can get iPhone with different storage capacities, but Atrix 4G comes with only 16 GB of on-board storage. However, it does have microSD card, which can be used to upgrade the storage capacity by 32 GB
As for the camera, both phones have 5-megapixels cameras with and for video calling, both the phones have front-facing VGA cameras. Both iPhone 4 and Atrix are capable of recording 720p HD videos. As the name suggest Motorola Atrix 4G supports 4G connections, whereas iPhone 4 is capable of 3G connections only. So, if you live in an area with 4G connectivity, then Atrix is infinitely more attractive option than iPhone 4.
The comparison of these phones would not be complete without mentioning the USP of Motorola Atrix 4G, which is its docking capability. You can connect your Atrix to your laptop or desktop using this dock and thus can effectively use your phone as a computer. However, the dock is worth additional £450, and thus it is up to your individual circumstances whether the additional pounds are worth it. No such docking facility is available for iPhone.
